MEMORIAL GARDEN

  •
  • The Crime Victims' Rights Council of El Paso has partnered with City Representative Steve Ortega, city departments, Yucca Neighborhood Association and private donors to create the Crime Victims' Memorial Reading Garden to commemorate the victims of violent crime, including drunk-driving crashes, and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty from the El Paso community. The Crime Victims' Memorial Reading Garden is located between the Judge Edward Marquez Library and Yucca Park. The Crime Victims' Memorial Reading Garden will serve as a site not only for children and library patrons to use, but as a gathering place for families to remember their loved ones.
  •
  • Boulder, Colorado artist Ken Bernstein designed the Crime Victims' Memorial entitled "Remembrance" as an art piece that includes granite insets for engraving the names of over 1,200 victims. New names will be added annually during a memorial ceremony.
  •
  • Benches surrounding the Crime Victims' Memorial are dedicated to our crime victims. One of the benches honors the memory of Donna Villareal-Ruiz whose dedication to the Council, crime victims and this project is beyond measure. Donna and her agency, West Texas Community Supervision and Corrections Department (WTCSCD), made the Memorial project possible by sponsoring a program that allowed for a majority of the funding. Special thanks must also be given to WTCSCD Director Steve Enders and City Representative Steve Ortega for their ongoing commitment to this project.
